CLAT GK questions

CLAT GK questions are the multiple-choice questions in the Current Affairs including General Knowledge section of the CLAT UG paper. CLAT 2027 carries 28 to 32 of them out of 120, about 25% of the paper. Each set follows a news passage of up to 450 words.

A correct answer earns 1 mark and a wrong one costs 0.25. The exam is on 6 December 2026, and the Consortium of NLUs has confirmed the CLAT 2027 pattern is unchanged. Every practice question on this page follows that format and uses events from the CLAT 2027 news window.

How the CLAT GK section actually works

The GK section is a reading test with a knowledge filter. You get a passage, then a block of questions tied to it. The Consortium’s syllabus says the passages come from news, journalistic sources and other non-fiction writing. Questions may touch legal information in the passage but never require law beyond it.

That sounds as if the passage holds every answer. It does not. The same syllabus adds that prior knowledge may occasionally be useful in this section, and in practice “occasionally” means most of the time.

What CLAT 2026 showed

CLAT 2026 (held on 7 December 2025) had 28 GK questions across five passages, numbered Q25 to Q52. We went through every question as reproduced by Delhi Law Academy and sorted it by where the answer lives.

The India and US passage mentioned Chabahar port, then asked why the port matters strategically. The answer, that it counterbalances Pakistan’s Gwadar port, was nowhere in the text. The chess passage on Divya Deshmukh asked who India’s first Grandmaster was. The Operation Sindoor passage asked which body brokered the Indus Waters Treaty.

So the working model is simple. The passage names a topic. The questions test what an informed reader already knows about that topic.

Timing

CLAT gives 120 minutes for 120 questions across five sections, with no sectional time limit. GK behaves differently from the reasoning sections: a question you know takes seconds, and a question you do not know rarely yields to reasoning. That makes GK the best place in the paper to bank time for the reasoning sections.

What type of current affairs are asked in CLAT?

CLAT picks the year’s biggest national and international stories, then tests the institutions, places, treaties and history behind them. Minor news rarely makes the cut. The Consortium’s syllabus names contemporary events from India and the world, arts and culture, international affairs, and historical events of continuing significance.

The five CLAT 2026 passages show the pattern clearly. Each is a front-page story. Each question reaches one layer below it.

Questions

The news hook

What the questions actually tested

India and US relations

Q25 to Q29

A 50% US tariff on Indian exports, H-1B visa curbs, Chabahar sanctions waiver revoked

Chabahar as a counter to Gwadar, what kind of visa an H-1B is, what MAGA stands for

Chess

Q30 to Q34

Divya Deshmukh wins the FIDE Women’s World Cup in Batumi and becomes India’s 88th Grandmaster

Origin of chess, India’s first Grandmaster, the first official world champion, the computer that beat Kasparov

Operation Sindoor

Q35 to Q40

India’s response to the Pahalgam attack, including putting the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance

Location of the Attari checkpost, SAARC membership, meaning of persona non grata, the World Bank’s role in the treaty, Indus tributaries

SCO summit

Q41 to Q46

The 25th SCO heads of state meeting in Tianjin, China

SCO members and neighbours, the summit’s outcome document

Air India AI-171 crash

Q47 to Q52

Compensation for victims of the Ahmedabad crash

The aircraft type, the investigating agency, the Civil Aviation Minister

The five story types to expect

Read across that table and five repeat categories appear. Build your notes around them rather than around calendar months.

  1. Diplomacy and trade. Tariffs, visas, bilateral visits and strategic ports. Revise the geography and the agreements behind each relationship.

  2. National security and treaties. Military operations, border posts and water treaties. Revise the treaty’s year, parties and broker.

  3. Multilateral groupings. SCO, BRICS, G20, QUAD and UN bodies. Revise who the members are and where the latest summit was held.

  4. Sport with a history hook. A major win opens questions on the sport’s origin, records and firsts.

  5. Disasters and regulators. A crash, flood or stampede opens questions on the agency that investigates it and the minister responsible.

One more point matters for CLAT 2027. The syllabus allows questions on legal information discussed in or related to the passage. When a story has a legal angle, such as a treaty, a statute or a constitutional body, note that angle too.

Current affairs for CLAT 2027: which months count

For CLAT 2027, the priority window runs from about November 2025 to November 2026. Stories from early 2025 still count if they kept developing. Coaching guides put the edges slightly differently, but all of them centre on the 12 months before the December exam.

If you searched for current affairs for CLAT 2026, note that the exam was held on 7 December 2025. Its biggest stories were the India and US tariff dispute, Operation Sindoor, the SCO summit in Tianjin and the AI-171 crash. They are not dead topics. A story CLAT used once can return with a new development, so keep their background notes and add what changed in 2026.

Verified 2026 events worth a note

Most important GK topics for CLAT 2027

International relations is the single most important GK topic for CLAT 2027. It took 11 of the 28 GK questions in CLAT 2026, far more than any other area. The ranking below uses that real question count first, then the areas the official syllabus names that the 2026 paper did not test.

Rank

Topic

CLAT 2026 GK questions

What to revise

1

International relations and groupings

11 (Q25 to Q29, Q41 to Q46)

Member lists of SCO, BRICS, G20, QUAD and SAARC; the latest summit host city; strategic ports and corridors such as Chabahar and INSTC

2

National security and treaties

6 (Q35 to Q40)

Water and border treaties with their year, parties and broker; border posts; diplomatic terms such as persona non grata

3

Disasters, transport and regulators

6 (Q47 to Q52)

Which agency investigates what (AAIB for air accidents, for example), the minister in charge, aircraft and rail safety systems

4

Sport with a history hook

5 (Q30 to Q34)

Firsts, origins and records of the sport behind a big 2026 win; host cities; governing bodies and their headquarters

5

Polity and legal developments

0 in 2026

Constitutional bodies, landmark Supreme Court rulings, new laws and appointments

6

Economy and budget

0 in 2026

Union Budget headlines, RBI decisions, trade agreements

7

Environment and science

0 in 2026

Climate summits, space missions, major scientific firsts

8

Arts, culture and history

0 in 2026

Heritage listings, awards, anniversaries of historical events

A zero in 2026 is not a licence to skip a topic. The syllabus names arts and culture and historical events explicitly, and one paper is a small sample. Use the ranking to set the order you revise in, not what you leave out.

The practical rule for CLAT 2027: give the top four topics about two thirds of your GK time. Spread the rest across topics five to eight, and always tie a static fact to a live story.

CLAT GK questions with answers: 2027 practice set

Below are three passages in the CLAT format, built on verified 2026 events, with 15 questions in total. Every answer is tagged Passage (the text gives it) or Background (you had to know it). The mix mirrors CLAT 2026, where most questions reached beyond the text. Real CLAT passages run up to 450 words, so expect longer reading on exam day.

Attempt all five questions in a set before you read the answers.

Passage 1: India’s third T20 World Cup

India’s cricketers ended the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup the way they started it: as favourites who delivered. On 8 March, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India made 255 for 5 in the final and bowled New Zealand out for 159 in 19 overs. The 96-run win made India the first team to lift the trophy three times, the first host nation to win it and the first side to defend the title. Jasprit Bumrah was named player of the match.

The tenth edition was co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from 7 February. Twenty teams played 55 matches across five Indian and three Sri Lankan venues. The build-up was not smooth. Bangladesh refused to play its matches in India and was replaced by Scotland, the next highest ranked T20I side. New Zealand reached its second T20 World Cup final by beating South Africa in the first semi-final at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

For Indian cricket, the result completed a run that began with the inaugural title and continued with the 2024 win in Barbados.

Q1. By how many runs did India win the final? (A) 69 (B) 96 (C) 159 (D) 255

Q2. In which year did India win the inaugural T20 World Cup? (A) 2007 (B) 2011 (C) 2014 (D) 2016

Q3. Where is the International Cricket Council headquartered? (A) London (B) Mumbai (C) Dubai (D) Melbourne

Q4. Which team replaced Bangladesh at the tournament? (A) Netherlands (B) Ireland (C) Scotland (D) Nepal

Q5. The Narendra Modi Stadium was earlier named after whom? (A) Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (B) Mahatma Gandhi (C) Jawaharlal Nehru (D) Major Dhyan Chand

Answers to Passage 1

  1. (B) 96. Passage. India’s 255 against New Zealand’s 159 gives the margin.

  2. (A) 2007. Background. India beat Pakistan in the first final, in Johannesburg.

  3. (C) Dubai. Background. The ICC moved its headquarters from Lord’s in London to Dubai in 2005.

  4. (C) Scotland. Passage. It came in as the next highest ranked T20I team.

  5. (A) Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Background. The Motera ground was the Sardar Patel Stadium until it was renamed in 2021.

Passage 2: Mirabai Chanu’s Asian Games silver

At the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Center on 23 September 2026, Mirabai Chanu lifted 87 kg in the snatch and 111 kg in the clean and jerk. Her 198 kg total earned silver in the women’s 49 kg category at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. North Korea’s Ri Song-gum took gold with a world record total of 215 kg.

The medal ended a 28-year drought. No Indian weightlifter had stood on an Asian Games podium since Karnam Malleswari at Bangkok in 1998. It also completed Mirabai’s collection. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medallist had won medals at the Olympics, the World Championships and the Commonwealth Games, but never at the Asiad. At Hangzhou 2023 she finished fourth after injuring herself on her final lift.

The Games run from 19 September to 4 October, with 469 medal events across 43 sports. India arrived on the back of its record haul at Hangzhou 2023: 106 medals, including 28 gold. In Aichi-Nagoya, the women’s cricket team retained its title by beating Sri Lanka in the final.

Q6. What was Mirabai Chanu’s total lift? (A) 87 kg (B) 111 kg (C) 198 kg (D) 215 kg

Q7. Which body organises the Asian Games? (A) International Olympic Committee (B) Olympic Council of Asia (C) Asian Athletics Association (D) Commonwealth Games Federation

Q8. Where were the first Asian Games held, in 1951? (A) Tokyo (B) Manila (C) New Delhi (D) Jakarta

Q9. Karnam Malleswari is remembered for which first? (A) First Indian woman to win an Olympic medal (B) First Indian to win a world weightlifting title (C) First Indian woman to carry the Olympic flag (D) First Indian woman to win Asian Games gold

Q10. Why is Mirabai’s 2026 medal significant for India? (A) It is India’s first Asian Games gold in weightlifting (B) It ended a 28-year wait for an Indian weightlifting medal at the Asian Games (C) It set a world record (D) It was India’s first medal of the Games

Answers to Passage 2

  1. (C) 198 kg. Passage. 87 kg plus 111 kg. 215 kg was the winner’s total.

  2. (B) Olympic Council of Asia. Background. The OCA is headquartered in Kuwait City.

  3. (C) New Delhi. Background. India hosted the first Asian Games in 1951 and again in 1982.

  4. (A) First Indian woman to win an Olympic medal. Background. She won bronze at Sydney 2000.

  5. (B). Passage. The text says no Indian lifter had reached the podium since 1998.

Passage 3: The plan to drop GK from CLAT

The Consortium of National Law Universities released the report of its CLAT Expert Committee in July 2026. The committee was set up by the Consortium’s Advisory Board, chaired by Justice Indu Malhotra (Retd.), to suggest medium and long-term reforms to both the UG and PG tests. Its co-chairs were Prof. Dev Saif Gangjee of the University of Oxford and Prof. Tarunabh Khaitan of the London School of Economics, joined by academics from Columbia, Cambridge and BML Munjal University.

The headline proposal concerns the UG paper. The committee suggests cutting it from five sections to three. Logical Reasoning and Legal Aptitude would merge the current Legal and Logical Reasoning sections, and Language and Comprehension and Quantitative Techniques would complete the paper. The Current Affairs including General Knowledge section would go, on the view that it rewards memory of the news cycle more than aptitude.

None of this touches CLAT 2027, which keeps its existing syllabus and pattern. Any structural change can apply from CLAT 2028 at the earliest, after a committee constituted by the office of the Chief Justice of India reviews the report alongside public feedback.

Q11. How many sections does the committee propose for the UG paper? (A) Two (B) Three (C) Four (D) Five

Q12. From which CLAT could a structural change apply at the earliest? (A) CLAT 2026 (B) CLAT 2027 (C) CLAT 2028 (D) CLAT 2030

Q13. Justice Indu Malhotra made history in 2018 as the: (A) First woman Chief Justice of India (B) First woman elevated directly from the Bar to the Supreme Court (C) First woman Attorney General (D) First woman chair of the Law Commission

Q14. Which National Law University admits undergraduates through AILET instead of CLAT? (A) NLSIU Bengaluru (B) NALSAR Hyderabad (C) NLU Delhi (D) WBNUJS Kolkata

Q15. Under Article 124 of the Constitution, a Supreme Court judge holds office until what age? (A) 60 (B) 62 (C) 65 (D) 70

Answers to Passage 3

  1. (B) Three. Passage.

  2. (C) CLAT 2028. Passage. CLAT 2027 is explicitly unchanged.

  3. (B). Background. She was the first woman lawyer appointed straight from the Bar to the Supreme Court.

  4. (C) NLU Delhi. Background. NLU Delhi runs its own test, the All India Law Entrance Test.

  5. (C) 65. Background. High Court judges retire at 62.

Your score breakdown. Six of the 15 answers sat in the passages and nine needed background. If you dropped marks mostly on Background questions, your reading is fine and your notes need more static links. Mostly on Passage questions means slow down and read the text before the options.

Previous year CLAT GK questions: what CLAT 2026 asked

Six of the seven needed facts outside the passage. None of those facts was obscure, though. Each is the first thing a well-read person would want to know about the story: who brokered the treaty, who is in the group, who investigates the crash.

That gives you a test for your own notes. For every major story, write down the three questions a curious reader would ask next, then answer them. Those are usually the questions CLAT asks.

The full CLAT 2026 GK set, with all 28 questions, is reproduced in Delhi Law Academy’s analysis.

Static GK questions for CLAT: how much they matter

Static GK decides most of your CLAT GK score, but only static GK that a current story brings into play. Static GK means facts that do not change: constitutional articles, treaty years, headquarters, historical firsts. In CLAT you meet it through a news passage, never as a standalone quiz.

It is also where candidates lose marks. Delhi Law Academy rated the current affairs portion of CLAT 2026 moderate and the static GK portion difficult. That fits our count, where 20 of 28 questions needed knowledge the passage did not supply.

The fix is to learn static GK in pairs with the news, not from a separate list. The table shows how each 2026 story opens a static door.

2026 story

The static facts it opens

India wins a third T20 World Cup

ICC headquarters, India’s 2007 and 2024 titles, stadium names and renamings

Mirabai Chanu’s Asian Games silver

Olympic Council of Asia, the 1951 and 1982 Games in New Delhi, Karnam Malleswari’s Sydney 2000 bronze

Proposal to drop GK from CLAT

Consortium of NLUs, AILET, Supreme Court appointments, judges’ retirement age under Article 124

Spain’s FIFA World Cup win

FIFA, previous winners, the first 48-team format and its three co-hosts

A pure static GK book still has a place for foundations such as polity, geography and history. Use it as a reference you look things up in, not something you read cover to cover.

What to read

Pick one daily newspaper and stay with it; The Hindu and The Indian Express are the usual choices. CLAT 2026 also drew passages from government releases, so the Press Information Bureau is worth a weekly skim for schemes and summits. Monthly current affairs compilations are for revision, not first reading.

How to take notes

Write each story in two layers. Layer one is the event in one line: who, what, where, when. Layer two is the three follow-up facts a curious reader would ask about, such as the treaty’s broker, the body’s headquarters or the first time it happened. That second layer is where CLAT 2026 set 20 of its 28 GK questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

CLAT 2027 has 28 to 32 questions in the Current Affairs including General Knowledge section, out of 120 in total. That is about 25% of the paper. CLAT 2026 had 28.
