Why Solving AILET Previous Year Papers Matters for NLU Delhi
Solving past year papers of AILET is not revision busywork, it is the fastest way to learn how NLU Delhi actually thinks. Every paper shows you the real difficulty level, the phrasing of questions, the balance between speed and accuracy, and the topics that return year after year. When you work through enough AILET previous year question papers, the exam stops feeling like an unknown and starts feeling like a pattern you have already seen.
There are four concrete gains. First, you internalise the exam pattern and marks distribution far better than any summary can teach. Second, AILET past year papers reveal the recurring themes in current affairs, static general knowledge and reasoning, so you prioritise the right topics. Third, timed practice on real AILET question papers builds the speed the paper demands, since 150 questions in 120 minutes punishes hesitation. Fourth, honest self evaluation against an answer key tells you exactly where marks are leaking. If you are still deciding between the two big exams, our comparison of whether CLAT or AILET is harder puts this practice in context.

2009 | Five sections. English, General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude, Elementary Mathematics, Logical Reasoning | 150 |
2008 | Five sections. English, General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude, Elementary Mathematics, Logical Reasoning | 150 |
A small note on the earliest papers. The 2009 and 2010 papers kept the five section structure but used a different marks split, with general knowledge weighted more heavily in 2009. Treat those two as pattern curiosities rather than a template. From 2011 onward the five section format settled into a steady shape until the major redesign in 2023.
Two quick points on scope. First, the most recent paper available is the 2026 paper, which NLU Delhi held in December 2025. The 2027 paper will be added to this archive only after the December 2026 exam, so until then the 2026 paper is your freshest full length reference. Second, this page collects the undergraduate BA LLB papers, which is what most aspirants mean by AILET question papers. NLU Delhi also conducts AILET for its LLM programme, and those postgraduate papers follow a different structure that we cover separately.

AILET Exam Pattern Changes Reflected in the Old and New Papers
This is the part most download pages skip, and it is the part that decides whether old papers help you or mislead you. AILET has run two very different formats, and if you practise an old paper without knowing this, you will waste time on sections that no longer exist. For the confirmed current schedule you can check our AILET 2027 exam date and notification page, and for how the two exams differ our note on the difference between CLAT and AILET is a useful companion.
Feature | Old Pattern Papers, 2008 to 2022 | Current Pattern Papers, 2023 to 2026 |
Number of sections | Five | Three |
Sections | English, General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude, Elementary Mathematics, Logical Reasoning | English Language, Current Affairs and General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning |
Total questions | 150 | 150 |
Mathematics | A small dedicated section | Removed entirely |
Legal Aptitude | A separate section | Folded into Logical Reasoning as principle based questions |
Largest section | Fairly even across sections | Logical Reasoning by a wide margin |
The takeaway for practice is simple. When you solve an old AILET question paper from 2022 or earlier, skip the elementary mathematics questions, because the current exam no longer tests them. Use the old English, general knowledge and reasoning sections freely, since those skills still transfer. The old legal aptitude questions remain excellent training, because that reasoning now lives inside the current logical reasoning section as principle and fact questions. Papers from 2023 onward match the live exam exactly and should form the core of your final preparation.
The current exam is an offline pen and paper test of 150 multiple choice questions in 120 minutes. One mark is awarded for each correct answer and 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer, which is why an attempt strategy matters as much as knowledge. Keeping this marking in mind while you solve AILET previous year questions trains the discipline that protects your score on exam day.
Section Wise Weightage in Recent AILET Question Papers
For the papers that mirror the live exam, from 2023 onward, the marks are distributed as shown below. This is the weightage you should optimise your preparation around, because Logical Reasoning alone decides almost half your score.
Section | Questions and Marks | Share of Paper |
Logical Reasoning | 70 | 47 percent |
English Language | 50 | 33 percent |
Current Affairs and General Knowledge | 30 | 20 percent |
Total | 150 | 100 percent |
Read this table next to your paper analysis. If your accuracy in Logical Reasoning is weak, no amount of English or general knowledge can rescue the total, since reasoning carries the most marks. This is exactly why our AILET batches drill reasoning hardest. If you want the reading and reference material that supports this, our list of the best books for law entrance preparation pairs well with paper practice.
How to Use AILET Previous Year Papers for Maximum Score
Downloading these AILET question papers as PDF is easy. Using them well is what separates a selected candidate from a disappointed one. The method below is the one our mentors insist on, and it treats every paper as a diagnostic rather than a checkbox.
Begin by simulating the real exam. Set a timer for 120 minutes, sit in one place, keep your phone away, and mark answers as you would on the actual answer sheet. This builds the stamina and the pacing that a calm reading of the syllabus never can. Solve the most recent paper first, because it reflects the current pattern most closely, then move backward through the years.
After each paper, spend as long analysing it as you spent solving it. Compare your answers with the answer key, and for every mistake write down why it happened, whether it was a knowledge gap, a silly error, a misread question or a timing panic. This error log is the real product of the session. Because each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks, study your guessing behaviour closely, keep attempts you were confident about, and cut the blind guesses that quietly drain your score. Then take your weakest topics back into focused revision before the next paper.
Repeat this loop weekly and your scores will climb in a way that feels almost mechanical. If you would rather run this loop with expert feedback and a structured mock schedule around it, the right coaching institute for law entrances can compress months of trial and error into a clear plan.
A Topper Tested AILET Practice Plan Built on Past Papers
Aspirants often ask how many years of AILET past year question papers they should solve and in what order. Here is a plan that our NLU Delhi selects have followed, adapted to the two pattern eras so you never waste a session.
Solve the last five current pattern papers, from 2026 back to 2022, under strict timed conditions, because these are closest to what you will actually face. Treat each as a full mock, analyse it deeply, and rebuild weak topics before the next. Next, mine the older papers section by section rather than end to end. Pull the English and general knowledge portions from these AILET old question papers going back to 2015 for extra practice, and use the old legal aptitude questions to sharpen the principle and fact reasoning that the current logical reasoning section rewards. Skip the elementary mathematics questions in those old papers, since the live exam no longer tests them.
In the final month, return to the most recent three papers and re solve them, aiming to beat your earlier score and tighten your timing. This is where AILET solved question papers become a confidence tool as much as a learning one. Aspirants in the capital who want this plan run for them can join a dedicated batch such as our AILET coaching centre at GTB Nagar in North Delhi, built around NLU Delhi and nothing else.
AILET Past Year Papers Compared With Mock Papers
A common question is whether AILET past year papers are enough on their own, or whether you also need mock papers, sample papers and practice papers. The honest answer is that they do different jobs, and strong preparation uses both.
Previous year papers are the ground truth. They show you the exact difficulty and question style NLU Delhi has actually set, and no mock can match that authenticity. Mock papers and sample papers, on the other hand, give you volume and let you rehearse the current pattern many more times than the handful of real papers allow, especially useful now that only the 2023 onward papers match the live format. The smartest approach is to anchor your practice on real AILET question papers, then fill the gaps with quality AILET mock papers and practice papers for extra repetitions. Reading widely from trusted sources and pairing it with our institute resources, which you can explore through the best CLAT and AILET coaching in Delhi, keeps the current affairs pipeline fresh alongside your paper practice.
