If you’re planning to join Symbiosis Law School, the Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT) is your entry gate. This exam is different from CLAT and AILET, so your preparation should be different too.
In this blog, we’ll break down how to prepare for SLAT step by step, along with useful tips to help you score well.
What Is SLAT?
SLAT is the entrance exam for five-year integrated law programs offered by:
- Symbiosis Law School, Pune
- Symbiosis Law School, Noida
- Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad
- Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur
The exam is conducted by Symbiosis International University (SIU).
SLAT Exam Pattern at a Glance
SLAT is an online objective test. It includes 60 questions and is divided into five sections:
- Logical Reasoning
- Legal Reasoning
- Analytical Reasoning
- Reading Comprehension
- General Knowledge
Each section has 12 questions. You get 60 minutes to complete the test.
After the test, you also appear for a Personal Interaction (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT) as part of the final selection.
How to Prepare for SLAT: Section-Wise Strategy
1. Legal Reasoning
This section tests your ability to apply legal principles.
- Practice legal passages regularly
- Focus on topics like contracts, torts, and legal maxims
- Learn basic legal terms and landmark cases
📝 You don’t need prior legal knowledge. The exam gives you the principle — you apply it logically.
2. Logical and Analytical Reasoning
Both sections require you to think clearly and solve puzzles.
- Practice syllogisms, blood relations, number series, and coding-decoding
- Solve 2–3 reasoning sets daily
- Focus on accuracy, then speed
💡 Tip: Time yourself as you solve reasoning questions.
3. Reading Comprehension
This section checks how well you understand passages.
- Read editorials and articles regularly
- Practice inference-based questions
- Work on vocabulary and tone recognition
📚 Reading newspapers like The Hindu helps a lot.
4. General Knowledge
SLAT includes static and current GK.
- Revise Indian polity, history, and geography
- Read monthly current affairs updates
- Focus on legal news and judgments
📰 Make a habit of reading daily news and weekly GK summaries.
5. Practice Mock Tests and WAT Topics
Take SLAT-specific mock tests to understand the paper format. After the test, analyze your performance and note your mistakes.
For WAT, practice writing 200–250 word essays on current social or legal issues. Keep your structure simple: Introduction → Body → Conclusion.
Personal Interaction (PI) Tips
- Stay confident during the interview
- Prepare answers for common questions like “Why law?” and “Why Symbiosis?”
- Speak clearly and maintain eye contact
- Know about recent legal and social developments
Final 30-Day Plan
- Take 2 full-length mock tests per week
- Revise current affairs daily
- Solve reasoning and legal aptitude questions
- Practice 2–3 WAT essays every week
- Improve weak areas based on mock analysis
Conclusion: Practice, Revise, and Perform
Now that you know how to prepare for SLAT, start early and follow a smart routine. Focus on building accuracy, reading speed, and clear writing.
With regular practice and a calm mind, you can ace the SLAT and secure admission to one of India’s top private law schools.
