Up-to-date Information About CLAT Examination

CLAT stands for the Common Law Admission Test. It is a national-level and top law entrance exam in India for admission to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs offered by various National Law Universities (NLUs) and other law colleges across the country.

The CLAT exam is taken by students who aspire to pursue a career in law. It is the gateway to getting admission into NLUs, which are known for their quality legal education. Conducted by the Consortium of NLUs, this exam assesses candidates’ legal aptitude and knowledge in various areas such as English Language, current affairs, legal reasoning, logical reasoning, and quantitative techniques.

CLAT law entrance test is conducted on an annual basis, and successful candidates secure admission to undergraduate programs like the five-year integrated Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (BA LLB) program offered by participating institutions.

  • English Language: This section tests your proficiency in English. It includes comprehension passages, where you read a passage and answer questions about it. The aim is to assess your understanding of the passage, your ability to infer and conclude, and your vocabulary. It tests how well you can comprehend complex texts, similar to what lawyers often have to read.
  • Current Affairs, including General Knowledge: In this part, you need to be up-to-date with what’s happening around the world and in India. This includes news, events, important historical events, arts, culture, and more. The idea is to see if you’re aware of the world you live in, which is crucial for a career in law.
  • Legal Reasoning: This is all about understanding legal scenarios and problems. You don’t need prior legal knowledge. But you’ll be given situations or facts and asked to deduce, analyze, or suggest solutions based on these. It’s like testing how you think as a lawyer would.
  • Logical Reasoning: Here, your critical thinking and problem-solving skills are put to the test. You’ll encounter puzzles, logical sequences, and various problems that require you to apply logic and reasoning, not just memorize facts.
  • Quantitative Techniques (Mathematics): This section is based on elementary mathematics, up to the 10th standard level. It includes short sets of facts or propositions, and numerical information. The questions require you to derive, infer, and manipulate numerical information based on these.

The CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) exam follows a specific pattern that is designed to evaluate various skills required for a career in law:
